Sink accessories make kitchen tasks quick and easy. The most efficient sink accessories are custom designed to fit the shape of your sink. One accessory that is essential for all sinks is the basket strainer. The kitchen basket strainer is the filter that sits between the sinkhole and the drainpipe.

If there is a puddle of water building up under your sink, you may have a leaky basket strainer. Water under the sink will damage the cabinet and cause mildew to form. It’s important to determine where your sink is leaking. A quick test to see if it is your basket strainer will let you know if you need to replace it. If so, it’s better to do it before it causes further problems. Replacing the basket strainer won’t require you to be an expert plumber. All that is need is, some of the common household tools.

Here is a list of fewer tools required to accomplish the task. A spud wrench or sprocket wrench, putty knife, plumber’s putty replacement kitchen basket strainer and toilet paper are mainly needed in the project.

First step is to loosen the slip nut using a spud wrench. Basically, a slip nut is a connecting piece made up of bronze that connects the strainer with the drainpipe.

Near the top of the basket strainer and the bottom of the sink, a lock nut is located. Unscrew the lock nut using a spud wrench. Occasionally the lock nut will be rusted into place. A few firm taps with a screwdriver and hammer onto one of the lock nut ridges should jostle it loose.

Bring out the deteriorated basket strainer and reinstate the new one. Beforehand, apply plumber’s putty all around the edges of the new strainer. Now, gently put back the strainer into the sink hole where the previous one was located.

Put the lock nut back on, tightening it until it touches the rubber washer. Let the washer settle down into place then tighten it completely. Don’t make it so tight that the washer protrudes out the sides. This one may require a helper in case the basket strainer–both old and new–is spinning while you’re loosening or tightening. Have him hold the basket in place.

Reattach the drainpipe to the basket strainer by fastening the slip nut connector, once again with your spud wrench. Test the new seal by filling up the kitchen sink and running a piece of toilet paper around the edges of the lock nut and slip nut. If the paper is dry then the seal is water-tight.

The modern bathroom fixture may be made of one of materials like true porcelain or earthenware. The true porcelain fixtures are the heaviest, the most durable, and the most expensive. The material is non-absorbent and white in color. When it is chipped the fracture shows the material below as white and a drop of ink will not be absorbed by it. Instead of replacing the entire fixture which is a costly affair, why not going for repairing the chipped part?

If the corner or edge of a porcelain or fiberglass fixture has broken off and you have the chip, you can glue it back in place with epoxy resin. Here are some steps to repair the larger chip.

Repairing a larger chip would require you to gather some useful tools and materials like cleaning supplies, oil-based hobby paint, painter’s masking tape, 5-minute epoxy adhesive, clear epoxy, denatured alcohol or nail polish remover, single- edge razor, toothpick and putty knife. Gather them all before you start the repair.

First step is to fix the broken piece without adhesive. This is to test if the broken part is rightly fitted to the chipped area. If you have the complete piece to cover the chipped part clean the surface.

Blend and apply two parts of epoxy adhesive on the area that is chipped or knocked out. Put gently the part that has come out over the adhesive applied area. Secure it with the masking tape. With the help of single- edge razor, scratch away all the excess epoxy from the surface.

Next step is to clean and dry the surface properly. Make use if some denatured alcohol to clean the surfaces. In order to match the color of the chip with the fixture, test- mix very small quantities of oil-based hobby paint.

When you have a good match, mix a slow-acting, two-part clear epoxy on a clean surface with a toothpick, and stir in the paint to color the epoxy. Apply it using the putty knife. Remove the masking tape after two days.

If you have most but not all of a large chip, glue it back in using colored epoxy, which will fill any gaps. Make sure, you properly ventilate the area while dealing with solvents and epoxy.

Vacuums have been around for over a century. When the original standup models are compared to many on the market today, they actually don’t look all that different. They even function on the same principle: a motor causes suction, and the dirt and dust are then sucked into a bag. The major difference between these original models and today’s is that these older ones used disposable bags, and today’s models normally have HEPA filters that can be emptied and reused.

Of course, with modern technology comes multiple innovations in the way of style changes, sizes, power and even uses. Hand held cordless and corded models sprang up in the 70s to pick up small messes and even table crumbs. These were rechargeable and could be hung on a wall for convenient access. Having spare batteries around for your vacuum became a thing of the past.

Smaller but more powerful designs came next, sometimes called carpet sweepers. These tended to be fairly thin, lightweight models that did a wonderful job on hard floors. Later upgrades came with two power buttons; one for hard floors and another for carpeting. Although not necessarily powerful enough to pick up things like pet fur from thick piled rugs and carpets, they became a mainstay for many housewives who learned how valuable these cleaning tools could be.

Canister vacuums have been around for decades. Originally built to be carried up and downstairs, the long hose made using the included attachments a real boon for future sales. Many housewives turned in their uprights to switch to canister styles because they were easier to maneuver around furniture and tight spaces, and of course were lighter when it came to carrying upstairs and vacuuming the stairs themselves.

Later styles were developed to handle various specialties such as households with pets. These models had superior suction to help with removing pet fur from virtually any surface from the floor to the ceiling and everything in between. The filters promised to capture all pet dander and allergens and not to redistribute them back into the air. Attachments usually include brushes for furniture and small brushes made to handle window treatments and blinds.

There are even cordless vacuums that promise to hold a full charge (they work at about 15 v) for 45 minutes, usually enough time to do an entire house. These come in all sorts of sizes and models and many handle hard flooring as well as some pretty deep pile for carpeting. You can find models that either plug in for charging, or you need to recharge a battery that is then placed into the vacuum in order to use it.

Some models are convertible. You can take them apart and use them as hand helds for smaller jobs, and then put them back together to use as a full size uprights. These are usually the cordless and rechargeable models although a few of the high end vacuums give you the opportunity to take out a section to use for special projects like spot cleaning a rug or furniture, and cleaning up a table full of crumbs.

For helpful staff and a high quality selection of vacuum cleaner Calgary, consider visiting this family-owned vacuum cleaner company in Calgary, Alberta. There is even a spacious showroom for testing out different brands of vacuums, including Dyson, Miele, Duo Vac, Dirt Devil, and Beam.
